| So by now, everyone knows about the “Clean Car Package” – aimed at incentivising New Zealanders to go electric by offering big discounts for both new and used electric vehicles (EV) – while imposing a “fee” on newly imported, higher-emitting vehicles from January 2022. But there are a couple of challenges with all of the above: The realities are that until there is any real mainstream mass supply of these internationally, then the premium over what you will pay for an EV vs a fossil-fuelled equivalent will not be an economic option for most clients. And for all you “legitimate” UTE owners out there an economically and more importantly a practical day-to-day EV UTE is so far over the horizon in our opinion that it may well be an idea destined for the bottom draw! |
